Why are our most important teachers paid the least?

Have any of you seen this recent article from the NYTimes on Pre-school teachers. I know we have a lot of early childhood folks in the room--what do you all make of this piece? Also, in a broader way, what does this article suggest about what aspects of teaching are valued or undervalued?
